Kick off your journey with a 4-hour drive to Shanhaiguan, south of the Bohai Sea. Savor breathtaking scenery the Great Wall meets the sea. The Great Wall here looks like a dragon's head poking into the sea and dancing in the waves. Stay at a beautiful courtyard hotel in the ancient ton of Shanhaiguan Pass. Local lunch and dinner.
Walk 4 hours at Jiaoshan (Horn Mountain), the first actual mountain the Great Wall passes heading west. Its peak is a flat item, can sit hundreds of people, there are huge boulders sagging, as if a dragon head wears horns and so the name. Stay in the same ancient town hotel at Shanhaiguan.
Enter the World Heritage Site of The East Qing Tomb and explore the best-preserved and largest of the extant royal tombs complexes in China. These royal dignitaries who once dominated the country's destiny and played extremely important roles in the political scene of the Qing dynasty are now sleeping here. Head up to an overlook for views of Huangyuan Great Wall (Yellow Cliff Pass) for 1 hour. Lodge at Huangyaguan hotel.
Trek four hours from the Peace Fort to Huangyaguan Pass and the Sky Ladder famous for its steepness and splendor. The east and west sides of the Pass are like cliffs, with steep and majestic hills, which are famous for their "one man's barrier, ten thousand men's barrier." As the cliffs reflect a thousand golden lights when the sun shines in the west at sunset, it is named Yellow Cliff Pass. Drive to Jinshanling Great Wall. Overnight in a courtyard hotel by the Wall.
Walk three hours from Jinshanling to West Simatai. The Great Wall's winding and majestic path, and the view from the top of the Wall is magnificent. It rises and falls between the mountains and the rivers, and the situation is extremely majestic. Here the terrain is low, easy to attack and hard to defend. Drive to Gubeikou to camp in the General's towers, the headquarters in every battle.
Hike 4.5 hours toward Jinshanling from where you camp last night at Gubeikou, the battlefield where Chinese army fought against the Japanese invasion in 1930's. The entire Gubeikou Great Wall remains original, very much like a sense of vicissitudes, and the broken walls and bullet holes make you feel as if you were there. A time of war. Seeing the Wall like this, in the light of the setting sun, is tear-jerking. Move to Jiankou Section and stay in Miss-U-Much hostel.
Gaze up at the peak of the Jiankou section of the Great Wall whose shape of the mountain looks like an arrow, with the collapsed ridge opening as its arrow nock. The Great Wall here is one of the most precipitous and majestic sections of the Great Wall, heavily weathered and untouched by any artificial embellishment. Walking across to Mutianyu to try the toboggan sleigh, fun for grown-ups and kids. Drive a toboggan sleight down from the Wall to the ground. That ends our 1-week expedition. Return to Beijing in the late afternoon.
Take 4:27 am bullet train and arrive at Huanshan Station by 9:26 am. Welcome to a gloriously unique perspective. Hua Mountain is well-known for its sheer cliffs and plunging ravines. It is known as “the most precipitous mountain under heaven.” Give you an enough challenge to walk through the famous "Sky Plank Road of Hua Mountain“ of over 700 years old - One of the ten scariest cliff trails in the world. Rest in Xian tonight at Ramada Hotel.
Explore the World Heritage Site "The Terracotta Warriors.” The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum is the result of the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. Work is ongoing at this site, which is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum. It is a sight not to be missed by any visitor to China. We'll also ride on Xian's historic "City Wall." Take a bullet train to Chengdu in the afternoon.
Wenjiang to Pixian. Visit "Chengdu's Garden" and Sichuan Cuisine Museum. 43 km of cycling.
Dujiangyan Panda Valley to Anren Ancient Town. Say hello to the pandas. Reach China's "Museum Town" of Anren by riding through the famous less-explored country road "Chongqing Road." 73 ks of cycling.
Pingle Ancient Town to Shangli Ancient Town. Riding on the riverbanks, visit the famous "Tea Market" at Pingle. Meet the White Horse Spring that gives the soar of horses. Tour the extremely picturesque Shangli Ancient Town where tea was fermented and pressed for sale and where Tibetan tea traders gathered. 45 km of cycling.
Caoba to Hongya. Riding through the ta plantation farms for the stunning views following Qingyi River. Get thrilled to meet the ferociou rapids pouring out of Caoyutan Dam. Find out the fact of riverside rural life as they wind through forestry, bamboo and the occasional hamlet in Hongya. 55 km of cycling.
Hongya to Leshan. It is another day of varied scenery on a small road, with views alternating from the river and its cliffs to terraced tea plantations and dense forestry. Meet Sichuan Hand Made Paper Museum and the Thousand Buddha Cliff alongside the Qingyi River. End by Leshan, home of the largest and tallest carved stone Buddha in the world. 64 km of cycling.
Leshan to Huanglongxi Ancient Town. Meet the Mingjiang River which soon become a part of Yangtze River in Yibin. Visit Zhongyan Temple holding Buddhist carvings of over 1,500 years of history. Arrive at Huanglongxi, the famous ancient town reaching back 1,700 years, now a place of frequent filming place known for its quintessential example of an old town. 55 km of cycling.
Huanglongxi to Xinglong Lake. Reach tongzhi Dragon Kiln to learn the traditional pottery-making. A celebration meal will be served once we arrive at our final destination at Xinglong Lake, the suburb of Chengdu. 50 km of cycling.
