Detailed itinerary:

Day 1 arrive in Zhengzhou-Dengfeng

You will fly into Zhengzhou, in Henan province. Upon arrival you will be met by your English-speaking travel guide, and you’ll be taken to your martial arts school in Dengfeng, a small town located in the Songshan Mountains. Songshan, one of China's five sacred mountains, is home to the Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of Kung Fu. The area of Songshan Mountain has some of China's biggest and most important temples and schools for Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. It is one of China's centers for martial arts and was where the Shaolin style of martial arts originated. The city was known as Yangcheng at one time. It was said to be the capital of the earliest dynasty in the area of China, the Xia Dynasty, though historians are not sure about whether their rule was truly dynastic. The city has been important as one of China's main centers for the development of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and martial arts.

Once we arrive in Dengfeng you will meet your master, and be given a general idea of your instruction. Your master will describe and recommend the right kung fu forms for you according to your body condition or kung fu experience. Your hotel during your stay will be near your martial arts school.

Day 2 Dengfeng (B, L, D)

Today will be a day of touring and leisure. After breakfast you will visit Zhongyue Temple and the ancient Songyang Academy. Zhongyue Temple is the biggest Taoist Temple among the temples of the Wu Yue (China's five sacred mountains). Songyang Academy was an institution of higher education in ancient China. Together with Yuelu Academy in Changsha in Hunan Province, Bailu Dong Academy on Lunshan Mountain in Jiangxi Province, and Suiyang Academy in Shangqiu in Henan Province, it was one of the four great academies in ancient China.

Songyang Academy is beautiful. We can see the style of the Qing Dynasty in the layout of the academy. More than 500 rooms still exist. Songyang Academy consists of 5 areas. There is the Xianshi Temple in which teachers and masters of the past are enshrined. Behind it is the lecture hall. Behind the lecture hall is Daotong Temple, and behind Daotong Temple lies the Book Collection Building. The rooms on both sides are book rooms, classrooms and so on. On the walls of the bungalows in the yard, there are inscriptions of the scholars of the past dynasties. The content and calligraphy of those inscriptions have their own characteristic styles. In the west stand some buildings that were used as classrooms and examination rooms during the Qing Dynasty.

After a vegetarian lunch at the Yongtai Nunnery, we will continue our tour to the cradle of Chinese Kung Fu at the legendary Shaolin Temple. Shaolin Kung Fu, only one of several types of kung fu wushu, or "hard-won achievement" (kung fu) "martial arts" (wushu), is, in turn, only one among many such martial arts that claim association with Shaolin Temple. The temple, which was founded in the 5th century CE, became famous in fact due to its association with the martial arts, in particular, with the strain of martial arts that was referred to as "external" (Shaolin) martial arts (as opposed to "internal" (wudang) martial arts. This is probably the most famous temple in China, not only because of its long history and its role in Chinese Buddhism, but also because of its martial arts or Wushu.

In the evening, we will enjoy a grand ceremony of music and Zen martial arts performed by the monks of the Shaolin Temple.
